Last year’s Pantone colour of the year was Marsala, a warm rich burgundy easily paired with hundreds of colour combinations. Marsala and Beige, Tan, Navy blue for fall. Very Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this warm hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. Dramatic and at the same time grounding, the rich and full-bodied red-brown Marsala brings color warmth into home interiors and wedding and event decor. Marsala will most definitely be holding strong to those fun fall weddings well into 2016.
Pantone has announced the colour for 2016 and for the first time ever, the blending of two shades has taken place to create 2016’s colour of the year! Rose Quartz and Serenity. Taking a softer approach, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate a gorgeous balance between warm embracing rose tones and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. Just looking at the swatch below puts me a peace and ease, the colours flow very nicely into one another.
The strong slightly out of the ordinary combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity challenges societies traditional perceptions of color association. In many parts of the world we are currently experiencing a strong movement of gender equality and sexual acceptance in today’s society. Which has in turn impacted colour trends throughout all other areas of design. The consumer’s increased comfort with using colour as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being judged has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.
The pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. This colour combination is appealing in all finishes, matte, metallic and glossy, the engaging combo joins easily with vast array of other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. Add in a bit of silver, gold or hot brights for more splash and sparkle. See below for colour combinations that compliment Rose Quartz and Serenity quite well.
As a wedding planner and decorator, I am very excited to see these colours become a strong trend. Oh, the fun we could have with these! How would you use these colours for your wedding or event? What do these colours make you think of?
